GETTING STARTED
How to obtain an Account on MidwaySSD
In order to use the dedicated MidwaySSD resources you will require:
- a Midway account
- enabled two-factor authentication for your CNetID
- connection with UChicago VPN
- active affiliation with the Social Sciences Division at the University of Chicago
- knowledge about the resources and software needed to perform your analysis
Eligibility
- All University of Chicago faculty and staff researchers within the Social Sciences Division, who are eligible to be Principal Investigators (PI) on a grant may obtain a MidwaySSD PI account by contacting us at help@rcc.uchicago.edu. See Principal Investigator Eligibility for information about the University’s policy concerning PI eligibility.
- All General Users must be sponsored by a PI from the Social Sciences Division in order to obtain a General User Account.
- Student accounts are automatically established for those enrolled in eligible degree programs that require regular use of MidwaySSD for coursework and thesis completion. These accounts will remain active for the period of degree enrollment with limited storage and monitored service hours.
Accounts
MidwaySSD uses UChicago CNetID to authenticate users. Similar to the RCC’s Midway, there are three types of user accounts:
- Principal Investigator (PI) accounts
- General User accounts
- Student Accounts for eligible degree programs
- Sponsored PhD candidates
If you have a PI or user account on the RCC’s Midway system, you do not need to apply for a separate MidwaySSD PI or General User account in order to access devoted SSD resources. PI accounts are registered to the primary researcher.
Storage
- The PI will receive 500GB of storage in the initial startup allocation.
- Up to 2 TB per researcher will be provided by the Division upon request.
- Storage needs exceeding the startup allocation may be purchased by contacting help@rcc.uchicago.edu
