MidwaySSD Hardware Specifications

Login nodes

In addition to Midway2 and 3 shared login nodes, MidwaySSD offers three high-speed and stable dedicated login nodes that each have two Intel Cascade Lake CPUs.

CPU compute nodes

The same as login nodes, in addition to the pool of Midway2, 3, and 3-AMD compute nodes, MidwaySSD has access to a total of 18 dedicated computing notes.

Each MidwaySSD CPU compute node has the following specifications:

  • Two Cascade Lake CPUs: Intel Xeon Gold with a clock frequency of 3 GHz (48 cores per node)
  • 192 GB of conventional memory per node
  • 960 GB local solid state drive scratch storage per node

GPU compute nodes

1 A100 GPU node, and this GPU node has the following specifications:

  • 1x Intel Xeon Gold 6346 (32 cores per node)
  • 256GB RAM
  • 1.8 TB SSD local storage
  • 4x NVIDIA SXM A100 GPUs

For more information about Midway 2 and 3 shared GPU nodes, check the RCC clusters user guide.

Storage (shared group drive)

In addition to shared Midway storage, MidwaySSD has 400 TB of distributed high-performance GPFS storage.

PIs are eligible to purchase more (>2TB) storage (group shared drive) on Midway3 by contacting cpp@rcc.uchicago.edu.

Network adaptors

HDR (100 Gbps) Infiniband fabric between nodes with the storage appliance in a fat tree network topology.
